We acquired a Nokia 3390 for free and are wondering if we should go with
Fido.

We mainly need coverage in Kanata and along Hwy 416 out to Barrhaven.

Our only startup cost will be the $25 SIM card, but if we don't have
coverage in this area it's not that great a deal.

Opinions welcome.

Kanata, Barrhaven, and the highway in between (417/416) should be fine.
FIDO won't work beyond Stittsville, or North and west of Kanata, like Carp,
Dunrobin, Woodlawn.

William, with a 3390 in Craig Henry.

FIDO + SOUTH OF OTTAWA = NO SERVICE

I live outside of Kemptville, and lose the signal as I hit exit 42
going south on the 416.  Switched to Rogers, and their 850MHz service
(Motorola T720) and it works like a charm, even in the valley south
west of Kemptville where I am (Oxford Mills)

The only problem is this free Nokia 3390 phone that someone gave us that
I think is 1900 MHz only.

Our go/nogo decision to purchase a SIM depends on whether we will be
able to use it in Barrhaven (specifically, at the new high school where
our daughter plays soccer).

Patrick,

A map of Ottawa identifying the locations of all the Microcell (Fido) towers
in the region is available here www.arcx.com/sites/Microcell-Ottawa.htm

The server is currently down but have a look once it's back up and you will
see if there is a tower near your area.  If remember, Fido has a tower on
top of the water tower near the intersection of Fallowfield and Cedarview
giving good coverage all across Barrhaven.

Hey, thanks!

Should be a good corridor between Kanata and Barrhaven.  Maybe I'll pick
up a SIM after all:-)

Patrick,

You won't have any problems with Fido in that area. I've been a Fido user
for more than 6 years now and I can assure you that the service is as good
South-West than downtown.
