Hello,
I have a friend with a vodafone GSM mobile in Australia. She is able to
send me sms messages, but she never receives the ones I send her. My
handset claims they are sent.
I have read:
<http://members.shaw.ca/stevefisher/fido/sms.html>
But I'm not sure what the doc is talking about when it says to use the
"+ country code, area code, phone number". Am i supposed to generate a
'+' character somehow? Fido told me I was to send to "1 country code,
area code, phone number".
TIA,
Sean

I'm not sure what it is with Vodafone, but several countries seem to
have problems sending to various Vodafone installations. I've had
problems sending SMS to Vodafone UK and Vodafone NL as the messages
seem to go off into the ether never to be seen again. I wouldn't be
surprised to find that Vodafone AU has similar problems.

Yes, to send an international text message you must send the message in the
following format: +, country code, area code, phone number. For example, if
you would normally dial 011 39 6166166, replace the 011 by a + character.
To get a +, it depends which phone you have. Usually, you either long press
the * or 0 key, or successively press the * or 0 key. Post which phone you
have, and I'll tell you how to make a +.

I found the + key, thanks! That did indeed work! Too bad the Fido
person told me the wrong thing. :(

Erm... okay, I could be wrong, because in theory the guy you talked to should
know, but... it sounds like the guy you talked to is nuts.
It's 011, country code, area code, phone number. Or + country code, area
code, phone number.
Good point on generating a +... I'll try to add something to the page about
that. :)
