I was able to send one of the .WAV files on the M55 (horse.wav) via email.

It is sampled at: 16 bit, mono, 16,000 hz,  IMA ADPCM compression (4 to 1).

However, if I try to load it back via the WAP browser from my web site, the
browser complains about it being too big (not enough memory).

I was able to download an 8k jpg image.
I failed with a 27.5 k .wav file.

So the limit is somewhere in between the two.

Does anyone know what the exact limit is ? (if Fido's gateway decides a
document is too big, wouldn't it have to response to my M55 client with an
HTTP response that include an error code ?

i.e. if the WAP browser shows an error that doesn't have a standard HTTP error
code, does this mean that the error is generated locally ? Or could Fido
insert such errors without any error numbers ?

And I have succeeed in sending a .wav file back to the phone, this time via
email. The WAP browser seems limited in file sizes. Fido told me that it
should accept up to 56k files. But I found the limit to be between 8k and 27k.

But that 27k file which couldn't be sent via wap wa received by the phone
without any problems (just make sure the user settings allow reception of a
large email, the default is 8k which would cause the phone to tell you your
email is too big to receive).

The first 4 seconds of a bond theme take 27k in .wav file.  So the trick is to
convert it to a midi file which would take much less space.
