I heard briefly that Fido will be offering a contract for customers and some
perks such as "reward points". Customers have been asking for a contract to
get better deals on phones and plans and apparently, the customers are
willing to sign a contract. If that is the case, I hope Fido uses it's
revenue to expand in other areas such as Penticton, Kelowna, Kamloops, etc.

It will be a very sad day when Fido announces that customers willing to be put
on a tight leash will pay less that those who had been so loyal to Fido
exactly because one could get the best deals without a contract.

You'ld think that if Fido offered a contract it would be done in a unique
manner w/ something for everyone, not just those who want cheap phones on a
contract. Sometimes you have to give the people what they want..

reciprocate.

I'm a Fido subsriber since 1998 and I'm very pleased with Fido. So, if
I can get the same service quality with a contract, why not ?

Because a large part of Fido's strategy was to differentiate itself from the
other big bad guys by giving great rates without any contracts.
Fido is a smaller network with limitations due to coverage. It also generally
lags in offering new features (even though it leads in installing those
features, it will denmy having them until everyone else has started to market
such features). Fido needs to keep the "no contracts" thing going.
Where I might be willing to see a contract ius when you purchase a subsidized
phone. You would commit to a monthly package (at same price as those without
contracts) for a certain amount of time to garantee you pay the subsidy of
phone, after which the phone should be unlocked.
But the actual monthly packages should not be different if you have a contract
or not.

This is the way all others work. The contract is for the phone only not for
the plan. If you check telus or rogers the contract just give you a better
price for the phone and you got a choice: 1,2,3 year or no contract.
If this is the case it's not bad at all. Maybe we can get better price for
phones because now fido is afraid of people buy phone then leave the ship
and resell it or use on rogers. Also when you get the upgrade program you
already get a one year "contract" anyway or you need to refund the rebate
the give you.
