Beginning June 2004, Fido will be introducing a rewards program for loyal
customers.  Every 100$ you spent on your Fido service will give you 5 Fido
Dollars, which can be redeemed as a credit for a new phone.  What do you
guys think?  (Let's try to getting this newsgroup back to what it's made
for, talk about Fido!)

i am two thumbs up about both ideas.
the first one - becaue for now they look not at how much money you have
spent with fido, but on what monthly plan you have been. which sucks.
the second one - because i almost unsubscribed from this usergroup. it is
nothing like it should be.

The group is only as good as its contributors.

So, now they are simply publishing their existing criteria to offer phones to
existing subscribers ?

While this is more upfront than current system, it will probably remove much
of the discretionary decisions that retention dept have at the moment to make
offers to customers.

But from a marketing point of view, this is perhaps better, especially if they
show you, on your monthly bill, how many point you have amassed towards a new
phone. Makes it harder to leave fido for another vendor if you are close to
getting a free phone.

On the other hand, you need to spend $5000 to get a $250 phone. If you spend
$50 per month, that is 100 months or 8 years. You'd have to wait 16 years of
you are a customer that spends $25 per month.

Concept is good. But numbers are wrong.

This is true, I do the maths and found I need about 6 and half years to get
the rebate fido just offer me after 20 months!  If they do that i will
change provider every two years like a lot of people in europe who got these
kind of programs.

I think this will be offered only to those who don't want contracts and
others will need to sign every 2 years to get a new phone at the same prices
as a new client.
