Sympathy for Vancouver users

I'm in Vancouver for a couple of days from Toronto, and 95% of my
outgoing calls have been "System Busy". Wow.

The majority of my incoming calls aren't incoming, and my text
messages are arriving late.

Oh geeze, if they bring CityFido to Toronto, I sure hope they have a
more robust system. I called Fido to inquire about it while in
Vancouver, and all she could do is apologize.

funny thing Tony, I experience the opposite in Vancouver. User experience n
Toronto is similar to what you described below, but that is changing..

So how much did Bell and / or Telus pay you for this drivel? 95% of your
calls had system busy..........give me a break!

That's odd. I have been with Fido since 1 month after they came on the
scene 1997 or 1998 (can't remember) and I can _honestly_ say that in
that time I have had no more that 20 "system busy" messages. Been with
City fido for 1- 2 months and _never_ had even 1

Smells like Telus doing something odd.

In montreal, I often get system busy message at the Lionel Groulx metro
station, and it has been that way always. But you press redial one or twice
and you get through.

Note that on landline, for a long time, I would often get fast busy trying to
call downtown offices at 10:00 am. (I woudl then use my Fido to get through no problem).

As long as trhe fido "system busy" messages don't last more than a few
seconds, I don't mind.

Yes. It's called "trolling alt.celluar.fido." :P

Thanx for all the replies. But no, I'm not a Telus "troll", or
whatever it was called. (ha ha never heard that term before, its kinda
cute.)

I've been using Fido in Toronto for years and years. I had to make a
brief switch to Rogers AT&T when my company refused to pay mobile
bills outside the corporate plan. When they finally abandoned the corp
plan, I switched right back to Fido. It was good to be back   :)
(For what its worth, I hated the Rogers service.)

I have ZERO problems with Fido in Toronto, honest. But I'm serious
when I had ALL those problems in Vancouver earlier this week. I wrote
the message on this board after calling Fido, and I admit I was a bit
pissed. I still love Fido, but I found their explanation kinda
lacking. Maybe you guys were right and it is my handset, but they
should have suggested that I have someone take a look at it?

Anyways, sorry to cause so much heat on the board with my post. It was
my frustration talking, but I'm still a Fido user and can't wait to
upgrade my handset to something new soon.

You must have a handset problem, or incompatibility with the local
equipment.  I am not having any problem with my fido service, in
Kitsilano, or Downtown. My 14 text messages today were all prompt, most
within a few minutes of bieng sent.

Maybe I should assume you're a Telus troll, but I think I'll give you
the bennefit of the doubt. I've been back on Fido since October, and I
make at least five calls a day. I've *never* gotten a system busy.

So what explains the difference in service quality?

Well, either Fido gives lower priority to roaming customers -- which
doesn't really make sense to me -- or we're back to you being a Telus troll.

Since I switched from Rogers to CityFido a couple months ago, I've been
mostly happy. I've had probably 2 or 3 "systems busy" and this week I had a
serious delay in some voice messages and text messages. All of a sudden on
Monday afternoon I get 4 text messages and 8 voices messages that were all
sent from differnt people on the previous Friday and Saturday. That is
seriously fustrating, especially when the sender thinks you're ignoring
them! Does anybody else ever experience these delays? I had them with Rogers
quite frequently as well.

Thanks,

Buddee.

I've seriously never heard a system busy. What do they sound like?

(But I *did* have a batch of delayed text messages recently, all from
voicemail. Voicemail is just about the only Fido-to-Fido messaging I
do; the rest is overseas to Globe Philippines and was instant all
weekend.)

Can't actually recall at the moment. I think it's kind of like a busy tone
with longer tones.

Buddee.

Yah, its three long tones, while the screen flashes "Service Busy" (on
the Nokia, not sure about other handsets).

Oh, okay. I used to get three tones all the time. But that was on
Rogers AT&T. Never had it happen on Fido. (Erm... actually, I think I
might have got it once, but I don't remember where.)
