Anyone know what GSM frequency is used in Mexico?  Same as my Fido set
or do I need to bring a tri-band?  Saw lots of Americans using their
cells last time i was there.

Specifically interested in Cozumel (near Cancun).

Thanks.

Mexico uses GSM 1900 just as do Canada and the US.

Principal carriers are Telcel and Movistar.  (That's Movistar not
movie star!)

Does Canadian caller ID work there?  Or is a [local] generic number
pop up instead?

You'll either get correct North American CID or nothing.  Most likely
you'll get CID.

I was just wondering as someone posted someplace here or in another
group that only local caller ID works because the call gets routed to
a switcher in Mexico so only the local number of the exchange shows.
Supposedly, the same principle applies as in using a phone card and
your number doesn't display if you call to some countries overseas
only the local number id for example, if calling to Austria from
Canada, the person receiving the call who may have Caller ID gets a
local number displayed not the original parties.

i was just in puerto vallarta, and when friends called me, the first
numbers were a little off but the last four were correct.
