Forget the serial cable. Some don't work.
This is what I did, today in fact. I bought a genuine Siemens USB
cable (N5601-A133) that fits SL56/S55/C56/A56 and M55 (which i have).
It 's got a power on thing. It works like a charm to unlock. But,
when I wanted to flash the firmware, it wouldnt detect the phone but
worked with the Siemens Data Suite. Go figure. Then, I will return
mid-week since I have 15 days to decide if I want to keep it.
As far as Future f.ck-ups, well, they don't have anything. Check out
the big kiosks. The one in Metrotown didnt have any. Call around.
: Fido had told me it woudln't be a problem to get it and that I should look at
: kiosks and telephone equipment vendors.

Your best bet is to buy a cheap non-oem serial cable. I bought one from a
store on ebay and it worked perfectly with all programs (data suite, upgrate
unlock, file transferts on windows etc) The best part is the cost ($8.95 US
for cable, headset, car charger and clip holder!) With shipping it cost me
21$ CAN for all no tax or duties (this may vary).

I use a program called M55unlock you can find it at www.siemens-java.com
this site also have a lot of games and ringtones you can download free
The program is very easy to use, you choose the right port and phone model
plug the phone (the phone need to be OFF) and press the on/off key but just
for about half of a second. Take a backup of the memory before.
In fact, you unlock these siemens phones excacly like the old ericsson like
the T28. I'm quite shure siemens bought the patents of phone design from
Ericsson. Just look at the antenna in the back, also a M55 look like a T68
clone in many aspects.
Don't forget your serial cable need to be a non-oem (again exaclty like the
ericssons) I not try with oem one but read comments about this not working.

What difference would there be between the "official" and "cloned" serial
cables ? Does one offer additional jumpers outside the RS232 connectors that
the other doesn't ?
Has anyone actually compared the two at the lead level to see what signals are
and are not supported ?
The Siemens connector as 12 possible leads. 2 used for power. I would assume 2
for audio (headset) (along with a common ground with the power). That leaves 8
for data/usb

Don't know but on the Ericssons, if I remember, there one or two more pins
on the non-oem cable maybe a jumper. It's probably the same with Siemmens
but someone has to test the two cables to know for shure. I think this is
done for prevent people from unlocking with the normal data cable.
