The docs indicate that this is an EDGE enabled phone, but when I connect
to the network it doesn't indicate whether I'm in an EDGE area or just
using regular GPRS.  Is there any way (short of doing a bandwidth speed
test) to verify whether the 6200 is receiving an EDGE signal?

You don't mention your carrier. Right now AT&T WS is EDGE enabled in all their
GSM markets. T-Mobile is mostly if not all GPRS and I don't know about Cingular
(anyone????).

The 6200 has a "G" in the upper left hand corner of the screen. If it is JUST
the G, it is GPRS, if there is a square around the G then it is EDGE enabled.

Well that's lame considering that my 3650 uses the same indications to
indicate that it's connected to gprs.

If you are on AT&T you are connecting to EDGE.
