GSM vs CDMA,  Tmobile and TDMA

With the merger of Cingular and ATTWS and their switch to GSM from
TDMA, how do people think the new Cingular will compare with Verizon
Wireless and CDMA?

Also, with Cingular, a big TDMA company, switching to GSM, looks like
the market for TDMA phones is going to dry up.

Finally, with Cingular now the biggest company (customers or
coverage?) supporting GSM, I presume Tmobile will start to fade?

I have a newly renewed two year contract with Verizon Wireless.
Since it will take Cingular about two years anyway to smooth things
out, should be interesting to see where they are then when my contract
expires with Verizon Wireless.

Thanks.

Better coverage, more spectrum.

Correct.

Perhaps, but I personally expect it to at least stay around for quite some
time to come.

I expect Cingular to complete most of the integration of ATTWS within a year.
Networks and infrastructure are highly compatible.

Coverage is comparable to VZW

Is not Cingular already using GSM as well as TDMA?

And I see VZW competing with Cingular and maybe even gaining customers
as the combined AT&T/Cingular work the network out.

Only in California/Nevada. PBMS was a GSM operator, the other
components of Cingular were not GSM operators.

Cingular has pretty much completed nationwide overlay of TDMA with GSM,
especially when ATTWS is factored in.

Actually quite a bit better.

Cingular is migrating rapidly to GSM.

Only time will tell.

Not going to has.  The number of TDMA/IS-136 handsets being offered is
a very few models as compared to several years ago.

>Finally, with Cingular now the biggest company (customers or

Definitely by number of customers.

>I presume Tmobile will start to fade?

T-Mobile will probably hold their own.

Don't forget that cingular (and before that Bell South/Southwestern
Bell) had a fifteen year head start over VoiceStream/T-Mobile.  It's
not surprising at all that they are farther ahead than VS/TM is.

And there is a point to your post.  What is it?
