Tmobile vs ATT/Cingular

Both TMobile and ATT/Cingular are GSM providers. With ATT/Cingular being
the dominant company in terms of buildout, is there anything special about
TMobile that prevents it from going out of business? Is there something
special about its GSM service that would allow it to remain a viable
competitor under the shadow of ATT/Cingular's GSM service, both in the
short and long term?

Looking to be educated.

Sure... why would bigger mean better? Ever try to get good service from a
company so big they don't know which end is up?

T-Mobile is in fact a major GSM player wordwide and a major landline
services provider in Europe., and the world wide operation kind of
dwarfs ATT/Cingular. T-Mobile=Deutche Telekom

Presumably T-Mobile will continue to compete on price and service.

I have T-Mobile, and I kind of had the same question. I've been fairly
happy with TMobile. I have noticed lately that all the new cool phones seem
to be offered by Cing, and not TMobile.
I just got back from San Juan, PR, and my US phone finally picked up ATT.
Only people I knew that were able to log on had Sprint prior to this.
Again, just an observation.

There is nothing unique about them that would prevent them from going out of
business.

Their pricing is typically the best that is available IF you are willing to put
up with their other limitations (ie: Coverage). With them you get more minutes
for less money.

... not to mention cheap data. Unlimited WAP, web and e-mail for
$5/month isn't available elsewhere!

And if you have a voice account, you can use your SIM in an AirCard and have
your PC online with unlimited data for $19.99 more. OR, if you just want data,
it is only $29.99 a month.

These prices compared to the PC card solution for all the other carriers of
$79.99 or $80 even.

Cingular is $20/month for "unlimited" data with the MEdia Works option, which
works fine with a PC Card.

The $5 "WAP" plan works just fine in my Aircard as well! The $5 plan
is limited to web browsing on port 80 only, though. You can't access
https sites unless you use a proxy or disconnect and reconnect via
(slow) CSD.

Owning an ISP, I need to be able to use the "S" sites as well as VPN so I pay
the $19.99 and am happy as I can be.

I did inquire at the corporate level (freinds) about T-Mobiles EDGE plans in
the USA. Seems that they are pushing it heavy in Europe and have no internal
rumors about changing it here in the states. So right now and for the near term
furture at least, it is GPRS only.
