I just bought a unlocked V551 without a SIM to use for prepaid service. I
thought about using T-mobile prepaid. What do I have to do to start using
prepaid cards ?? Also, can I or can I not access the T-Zones on my V551 ?
What's this I hear about having to 'reflash the firmwear', and how do you
get that done ? So far, I think I just brought on alot of aggrevation for
myself.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Just get one.

(1) subscribe to that service, and (b) configure the phone properly.

You mean I don't need a SIM card in the phone to use prepaid cards ??
I thought you had to have one in there to store your info.

Any GSM phone needs a SIM to work (except for emergency calls).

In case you haven't picked up on it yet, I'm stoopid about this stuff. Do I
have to get a SIM from a carrier ? Can it be ANY carriers SIM, since I have
a unlocked (cingular) phone ? Can I use one carriers SIM and anothers
prepaid wireless cards ? Thanks again.

You need a correct SIM for the particular service (prepaid or postpaid),
available from the service provider and often from resellers as well; you
can't use a Service X SIM for Service Y.

You'll need a SIM card. Without a SIM card all you can do is call
emergency services (112 or 911.)
If your phone is unlocked you can use any SIM and it will work
provided the service that the SIM is on is compatible with the area
that you are in (a single band 1900 phone won't work in an area with
only 850 for instance.) Or in Europe if your phone only can receive
1800 you cannot use a 900 network.

Your unlocked V551 should work propertly without any prepaid services.
If you have heared about reflashing the firmware - good. You should do
it in nerest cell phone service. I think, that someone before tried to
reflash firmware in this phone - and he failed... Do it again in
professional service... It should be ok.
