Background
I'm in the UK, and am trying to understand what is possible with GSM Modems.
We have used a web based sms submission system where we can send sms's , and
key in the "From" part as an 11 character alpha, so when the call appears on
the recipients handset, rather than the from part being a number (eg
"0786xxxx") , it can be from a name , such as "Mark")
We now want to get ourselves a GSM modem, and wondered if anyone knows
whether the above scenario is possible ??
When we send from a GSM modem with a Vodafone SIM inside, where does the sms
go ? does it go to vodafones SMS server, then out to wherever ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank - Mark

If you send it as an SMS it will go to Vodafone's SMSC it will then find out
where the recipient is and send it directly to the phone. Vodafone SMSCs
will ignore the change you requested to the origionation address, it will
always show the number of the origionating mobile on the destination phone.
Bet.

No. You cannot change the sender name when sending via GSM modem.

The message goes as if it had been typed in at the keyboard of a
phone. From the phone to the SMS Service Centre, which then forwards
the message to its destination GSM network.
