Riiing SIMs in Amsterdam???

I purchased a Riiing SIM from a German company off Ebay May 9th for a
trip I'm taking tomorrow (the 22nd) to Europe.  Bad Move.  They shipped
it the 10th airmail, but it evidently got lost.  I should have bought it
from Telestial here in the US, but thought I'd save some bucks.  Now I'm
hosed.  Like I said, bad move.

Does anyone know if you can buy a Riiing SIM in Amsterdam, like in a
store?  Or is it only available mail order there?

You can buy a lebara card which does the same thing only cheaper in
Telfort shops.  For more details go to http://www.lebara-mobile.nl
(There's a Nederlands, English, Turkish, Arabic and another language
which I don't recognize page as well.)  Also available at "Bel
Company" in Amsterdam on Leidsestraat, Niewendijk and several other
places in Amsterdam. (Look for locations in Noord-Holland.)

The other language is Chinese.

They should be free if you are using a SIM card from the country you're in.
If you are roaming, you'll have to pay roaming charges unless there is some
sort of agreement in effect.

In the US you will have to pay for incoming calls unless your plan provides
so many minutes that you don't notice.

Calls are free on the incoming side.  On the other hand, unlike what
you're accustomed to in the U.S. the calling party will pay a surcharge
for reaching a mobile.  This surcharge can be very high depending on
your friends' long-distance provider.  If your U.S. friends are likely
to call you while you're in Europe (and you want them to remain your
friends), it would be considerate to alert them to this fact.

The original query apparently was about the Lebara SIM.  Their roaming
charges (available in Dutch only) are here:
http://www.lebara-mobile.nl/nederlands/tarieven.htm#inBuitenland

If my limited Dutch is correct you'll pay the same rate for incoming and
outgoing calls while roaming.  In most of Europe the standard rate is
EUR 1.30 per minute, and EUR 0.95/min on preferred networks (if I
understand "voordeelnetwerk").  In the U.S. ("V.S.") the rate is EUR1.90
per minute.  That's not quite free...

They're free in the country in which the prepay SIM is issued.
If you roam to another European country, you are likely to be charged for
incoming on _most_ prepays.

Exactly.  That's why I ordered the Riiing (which didn't arrive).

But apparently you can't buy them off the shelf in Amsterdam.  So I
guess I'll get a Lebara (which seems to have good outgoing rates) or
some other prepaid SIM for Amsterdam, then one for the Czech Republic,
one for Hungary, and one for London.  Yikes.

Or go phoneless. When I go on vacation I do not check e-mail, nor do I make
or receive phone calls. It's a vacation! If someone must reach me I put my
itinerary on my web site and refer to its URL on my answering machine.

No. Using a Lebara card incoming calls are only free when you are in the
Netherlands. See their website for details.

Incoming with very few exceptions is not free in the US.  Definitely
not free for Riing or lebara.

I haven't used it yet, but incoming calls are free w/ Riiing:

Incoming calls are free to the called party only in what Riiing calls
"Zone 1" countries.

In the U.S. (Zone 7), incoming calls on Riing are EUR0.99 per minute.

You'd best check again.  The only free incoming mobile in the US is
with some monthly plans with Nextel.  None of the others offer any
kind of free incoming plan in the US.  That would more than likely be
with Riiing's roaming partners (T-Mobile and cingular.)

Incoming calls are free with riing in many but not all of its operating
areas. Any that are in the first group are free. the US is one ofthe most
expensive areas to use any roaming (yes there are places with higher but
not in the developed countries commonly refered to as the West.

Does anyone know if there is anything similar in Copenhagen?

It is indeed cheaper I see, at least inside the Netherlands.  It doesn't
look quite as seamless as the Riiing when roaming from country to
country.  But it's certainly looks like a viable alternative.

Thank you!  *Especially* for providing the name and locations of where I
can go purchase one of these when I get off the plane!
