I bought one (pay as you go sim) in China day before yesterday, no questions asked, In Thailand, all sim cards are now required to be registered. Where are you? In Malaysia they're sold over the counter for cash without any registration process or ID check. I recently bought one in Thailand and the registration consisted of someone copying my name off a photocopy of my passport in such a way that nobody would ever have been able to read it (maybe three of the letters were correct).
