sending / receiving SMS and MMS messages using a PC

Hi all,

for an application I am thinking of I need to be able to send/receive
SMS and MMS messages using a PC.

I need to be able to send SMS text from a database. MMS text & image
from a database. Receive SMS text, parse and store in a database and
receive MMS text & image, parse and store in a database.

I need to be able to handle about 500 in and outcoming messages an
hour.
* What is the best approach here?
* What are the best tools to use?
* Can I connect a GSM phone to my PC and receive the messages? (can a
phone handle this volume?)
* How should I be connected to operator networks if it doesn't work
using a GSM?

If you have any experience with this topic... please respond...

I am living in the Netherlands btw. and I am targetting the Dutch
market... any experience is welcome....

Well, if you use the modem to only receive sms, than the answer is yes,
a gsm modem can handle it.
At least I'm speaking about sms, non mms.
I suggest you to sign a contract to send sms throught some internet
operator,
instead of sending by gsm modem. You then have alphanumeric senderid and
lower
cost.
I built such a system in Italy (talking again only for sms),
so if you need something you can contact me.
