I have a Sony Ericsson D750i, and I was wondering if there was a way to
transfer Java games from my PC to my mobile using the USB cable
provided.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, just connect your phone to your pc through usb..
Do not use/install the software from sony-ericcsson.

Go to hardware... search for new hardware...
new hardware found.. install drivers...
and your phone is accessible trough explorer
as a external mass media storage device.

Just copy the java games (.jar + .jad) to
your phone.. in the appropiate dir.

How can I get hold of such free games? All the sites that I have found
that cater for Java games for the d750i, I have had to pay for, to d/l
straight to my mobile.

I am a first time SE user, after being with Nokia for 6 years, so I'm
new to all of this.
