I will be on vaction in Ixtapa Mexico and would like to call home ( the
USA)   can anyone tell me the best deal for Sim cards that will be the
cheapest for me to call home?

Most of the Mexican prepaid sims cost a lot to call USA. You may b
better off roaming if you have a GSM carrier such as Tmobile o
Cingular. OTOH, try buying a calling card. No, if you will be there fo
a while, you will have to compare the prepaids and make your choice

Agree. I used a Telcel SIM while in Cancun a couple of years ago, and it
really didn't save me any money - even on domestic calls within Mexico,
because long distance charges apply. Worse, the distance calculation is
based upon the location where the SIM is sold rather than where you
actually are when making the call.

If I were doing it again I would just roam on my US account for a short
stay.

I don't know if going the "roaming charge" way is the way to go.
I tried the same thing driving cross country and got tooled. 800 bucks.
I would go with a  calling card, don't call from you hotel room
though, I believe the surcharge is still applicable even if you are
using your own source to make the call. If you need a suggestion, I
would advise using a company called OneSuite. They have a pretty easy
to use website (to signup and recharge) and they have international
service, that is from foreign country to the U.S.

Have fun in Mexico, watch out for those chicklet bandits!
