Hi

Im not that familiar with cellphone tech.  I bought a FIDO  phone  for my father.
A few months ago I got my bill and was charged 25cents for a text msg.  I called FIDO and they said I accept the txt msg
by opening it ( they got me there because I did open it).  I told them I did not want to receive anymore text msg.  They
said to call a number to unsubscribe to msg.  The phone they gave me said to call back another day because of the
volume.   I just received my bill and theres another 25cents from a msg.  I did not receive any msgs in a few months.
After talking with them they said someone on the internet got my phone number.  THats alot of bs.  THe phone is hardly
used, and my father only knows how to make calls and receive.  I checked the phone msg's and theres none stored on the
phone.  FIDO did not want to reverse the charge.  Its not the money to me.  Its that some f.ck out there is exploiting
ppl with bs.  I think this is a scam beyond belief and FIDO is getting a cut
They told me to go to www.sms.ca  The page does not load.  Ive tried over the course of 3 hours.  

Can anyone help me with this.

Well this FIDO mob sound like crooks.  Why should you have to pay for
receiving an SMS?  I only pay for the ones I send, if I choose to send them.

I have not control of who sends me an SMS, so why should I pay for them.
 That's just crazy!

Hi

I think you've payed for the SMS because you received a "return receipt
when opened" option attached with the message, it is possible to charge
when the sender receives the answer.

I haven't seen a "return receipt when opened" facility.  How do
you request it?

And what happens in the case of a class zero (flash) message?
Likewise when the received message gets first opened somewhere
outside of coverage?

I am familiar with the concept of delivery status reports being
charged to the sender of the original message (which had the
Status Report Request flag turned on).

It`s a facility of delivery status, as you said, but since a new CDR is
generated inside the SSMS, the mediation system of the company can make
a flow to bill for the message. It is just a "flags on, flags off"
options.

I understand that the charge for a delivery receipt could be
made in either direction.

But is there a facility to notify about the act of opening of a
message, as distinct from its delivery?  This is the aspect
that interests me.

Thats a very good question :-) I'll ask my friends about it, I really
don't know.
