Obtain SIM card for Norway where?

A friend has offered to lend me a spare quad-band unlocked GSM phone to
use in Norway next month, but I need a SIM card.

I've found a number of Web sites offering essentially the same deal,
setup + KR150 credit for about US$60, but I don't know anything about
any of this. Those that mention a carrier always are with Nortel.

What's a reputable US outfit to buy a starter SIM kit so I'll be ready
to go once I get there?

www.telestial.com is reliable - I've bought from them - though for local
prepays it's much cheaper to buy after you arrive abroad.

Thanks. I'd like to be on the air from time I'm in the airport, so I'll
see if I can find out if there's someplace in the Bergen airport where I
can get set up.

I've never dealt with pre-paid services before; what's the expected
premium above the included KR150 included service if I can buy locally?

Would I just pick up a card off a display rack and do it myself, or is
there paperwork?

I've had pretty poor luck in the international arrivals areas of European
airports, so I, too, have sometimes bit the bullet and paid to buy a SIM
before leaving the US ... or else used an global international roaming
SIM (see http://www.prepaidgsm.net for comparisons).

I'm not sure I understand your question. The premium I refer to is the
fact by buying from a US reseller you pay perhaps twice as much as you
would by waiting to buy until you arrive.

Every country is different, and I have no experience with Norway. In most
cases it's simple, but some countries (e.g. Italy) require things like
tax ID's or other paperwork.

Well, since you get KR150 worth of service with the card, I'm
guessing that it costs more than that for the initial "starter pack".

I'd then guess that once your're set up you can re-charge your
account for just the cost of the time you're buying.

I'll probably buy the card before I leave; it's a relatively small
price when compared to the tons of money I'll be spending during the
rest of the trip :-)

Plus, I'll know my phone number before I leave, so I can give it to
people who I think might need it without the expense of calling them
from Norway just to give it to them.
