Help on Moving Smart Chip from One phone to another

I am in the process of switching cell phones. I am going from a Motorola
V180 to a Nokia 2610 each purchased from Cingular.

I am having difficulty pulling up the address book entries from the smart
chip once the Nokia phone is turned on. In fact, the Nokia shows that the
chip is empty. However, if I immediately move it back to the Motorola, I
see that 2 or 3 dozen address book entries. When the smart chip is in the
Nokia phone, I know it is working because my phone number is recognized.

Before I call Nokia support, can someone indicate if I'm doing something
wrong?

Phones can save the address book entries to the phones internal memory,
the SIM card (what you call the "smart chip"), or both.

In your case, it sounds as though your address book entries are saved to
the internal memory of your V180. When you move the SIM card to your new
Nokia, the entries are not there because you left them behind on the
Motorola phone.

You must put the SIM card back in the Motorola V180 and use the address
book options to copy the entries to the SIM card, which will then allow
them to be accessed on the Nokia.
