Despite all the techno-hype one often hears today, there's one model
from many manufacturers that stands above all else in this regard. You
prolly won't see it listed in a catalog, but it's the INTIO model... I
Never Turn It On.

It depends on what you need. My basic Nokia 6340i is rated for
25 days standby on gsm. it has no color screen, or camera or mp3 player. its
a basic phone that under Cingular can be set to access analog, tdma
and gsm, it is a cingular branded phone but unlocked to use T-mobile.
Under t-mobile it does gsm quite well.
Perhaps you need to give us more details of what you are
looking for in a phone.

The techno-hype has only increased power consumption, quite radically
actually. If battery life is the most important decision factor and
relatively basic services are enough, one should look after phone models
with black and white LCD displays and GSM only cellular support. One with
the biggest battery from these products would be a good candidate.
