I have been using my cell phone battery for 2 years now. I haven't
noticed a change in the performance of the battery so far. What signs
should I look for when the battery is about to die? Can I hope that it
will last another 2 years, or am I being too optimistic?
thanks

Lifespan depends on the type as well as use. NiCd if a very old
phone, NiMH if fairly old or low end, and Li Ion likely in your case.
The sign is diminishing capacity. Fewer minutes of talk time per
charge, less standby time, etc. It won't up and quit entirely.
You'll see degradation.
2 years is about the expected Li Ion lifespan, based on average use.
But if you haven't charged it as much, you may get more. The number
of charge cycles is the main determinant.

I use two cell cell phones, one lightly, recharging it either on demand
(beeps) or when I'm in the mood. I have no problems. The other cell
phone is used rather heavily- the battery is often drained. For the
past month there have been problems with getting that battery to take a
charge. Both cell phone are the same model with the same carrier. The
lightly used cell phone will run past the two year limit.
