I want to pick up a prepaid GSM SIM to use during my 2 week trip in
Italy.  I'll be flying into Rome and would like to know if there are
any places in the airport (Fiumicino) or in the Termini that you might
recommend.

Do these prepaid GSM SIMs work all over Italy?  I'll be Tuscana, Cinque
Terre, Venice and Milan.

Thanks for your help.

There may be some in the airport, but there are good odds that you're
going to find many mobile phone places in the city centre.  At any
rate it should not be a problem in getting a GSM "PAYG" card either in
the airport or in the city centre.

Both TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile) and Vodaphone have shops in Terminal B at
Fiumicino.

Yes, they all do.

Well, these are well-known touristic places, so you'll find good
coverage whatever gsm operator you'll choose.
I'd prefer a "wind" sim card (and its cheaper international rates)
with either the "sempre light" plan (about 24cents per minute allday
toward all italians mobiles and landlines, and 12c per minute after
the 3rd minute of conversation) or the "best wind" plan, offering
cheaper calling costs toward landline\other wind mobiles.
You'll need an italian "fiscal code" to activate the sim; probably
they will calculate it for you at the store.

Ciao Diego.... can you please explain to me what this fiscal code is
all about?  Is this an additional cost or some sort of Identification
that is needed to start an account?

Thanks for your help.

Sure :^)

No, it's absolutely free to have it :)

It's an individual identification code needed, together with your
identity documents, to activate the sim (and to do many other things
here in Italy, sort of a ssn number).
It's a combination of letters\numbers that come from your first\second
name, year and place of birth, sex. This code can be easily calculated
even for a foreigner (the regional part of the code is replaced by the
code of the nation you were born into), both with a simple software
available almost anywhere on the net (you have to google for
"calcolare+codice fiscale") and on some istitutional italian website
that i just don't remeber now.
I'm offline now, so i cannot search it for you, but if you fail in
finding it on the net, then tell me and I will help you.

You're welcome! :^)
