Hi folks,
I've got this rather old Panasonic G450 that I wanted to use as a spare
phone, but it seems to have problems reading my sim.
At first, I thought it was a bad connection, so I've cleaned it, but that
didn't work. I'm actually thinking that it can't be a bad connection,
because of this: When I turn on the mobile, it knows there is a sim card and
it actually can communicate with it, because it knows whether I type the
right pin-code or not. When I type the good pin code, instead of finding the
network, it says 'invalid sim'.
It's not the sim card either, because I've tried both my sim card and my
wife's and both cards do work in our usual phones (Ericson T200 and Nokia
3210), but both give the same error in the Panasonic G450.
Is there anyone who has an idea of what the problem might be? All idea's are
welcome (even if someone knows a better newsgroup where to post this
question).
Thanks,
Dieguito

Well u havent stated whether this unit was ever used on your existing
wireless carrier, but I doubt it. The phone is most likely SIM/SUBSIDY
locked. You will need to get the subsidy code form the orginal carrier, if
someone has an current active account. If not youll probably have to pay
someone to unlock it, if you can find someone who unlocks Panasonic. I gotta
tell ya, at bthe price of some of the unlocked phones on EBAY, may not be
worth putting much time/effort or $$ into this Panasonic

It actually has been working before. The device was bought in 1999 and
worked fine for about two years. One day, it just stopped doing what it had
to do (by giving the invalid sim message). It has been put aside and was
replaced by the Nokia 3210 about mid 2002, but after one year, that 3210
started to have power problems (even when the recharger is connected to the
mains, it still switches off like if it would have an empty battery). That's
why the G450 has been digged up.
Do you think it could be possible that it has been locked by accident? And
wouldn't the sim card be locked as well?
In any case, thanks for your reply,
Dieguito.
