I have a Siemens S46 wireless phone. When used in TDMA mode, I am able to
boost the signal by at least one level by used an attached external antenna
(the specification for the antenna says it is about 11 db gain). When
used in GSM mode, however, the same antenna does nothing to boost the
signal.
Is it possible to boost the signal of a GSM phone, and how would you do it?

Is it possible that the external gain antenna is a 800 MHz single band
model? ATT presently operates GSM on 1900 MHz.

The antenna I purchased is supposedly a dual band, 800-1900 MHz antenna.
Experiment would suggest it is boosting the signal for the 800 MHz signal
(TDMA) but not for GSM on 1900 MHz.
Has anyone found a GSM antenna that they use successfully with AT&T Wireless
in the Bay Area?

From $20 passive antennas that are tuned to the frequency you want, on up to
a full high-rise repeater system. Check it out.
