> Anyone know of any GSM providers in the Anchorage Alaska area?
I doubt it. According to WirelessAdvisor.com, a GSM provider called
ACS Wireless is licensed in Anchorage. However, a visit to the
company's website (http://www.acsalaska.com/wirelessserviceorders/Phones.asp)
shows only TDMA and analog phones available.

There is GSM coverage in Anchorage and Fairbanks. Cingular GSM Nation
shows this in its coverage map, as well as a friend of mine who has had
service in Fiarbanks. As Todd mentioned, ACS should have coverage
there, but it could just be a romaing overlay.

Good catch! I hadn't thought of that- ACS might have GSM up, but not
be using it for their own customers yet, particularly since many of
their plans seem to include free roaming anywhere in Alaska, which
wouldn't do much good on a GSM-only phone!
