My daughter is going to Brazil ( Sao Paolo and Rio) in late February ( for
10 days) and would like to get info on GSM service (pre-paid, top-up cards,
etc.), including prices. She has a T68i which has worked wonderfully all
over Europe and in Boston & Chicago.

Any info appreciated.

Hi,

In Brazil the cell phone operators are divided by area. Some pre paid
credits can't be used in areas another than that was acquired.
In Rio there are three cell phone operators with GSM:

OI - www.oi.com.br
TIM: www.tim.com.br
Claro: www.claro.com.br

Local call costs about US$ 0,40/minute in pre-paid mode;
Credits may be acquired in modules with around US$ 10,00
Sony Ericsson T68i may be used in these operators.
Check Home Pages (Unfortunatly in Portuguese language)

Hi Albino
Maybe there is a post paid provider with a short contract term.  Cellular
for Less Tacoma is a Verizon reseller, three month minimum to waive the
activation fee, then month to month.

I will be in Sao Paulo and Goiania sort of knowing highway coverage
in-between is probably not available.
