I bought a T68i with AT&T branding, supposedly unlocked. I have an AT&T
sim and all my friends are running Sprint PCS. Is there a way to verify
that the phone is unlocked without another sim? I want to be sure now -
before I leave feedback - not later when I'm in a foreign country
cursing at an Orange sim.

Visit a Cingular or T-Mobile store, and ask if this
is unlocked for use on their service. Fido if you're
in Canada. Ask to borrow the salesman's activated SIM,
or even a functional (but dead, unusable, to the
billing computer) one from the service technician.
Any non-fried SIM of another carrier will do.

You may write me directly, after deSPAMming my
address.

Yes. From ground display, perform  > * < < * < *  (where < and >
are joystick moves, * is the key), to access the Service info. Go
to SIMlock, hit YES, and take look at the 4 or 5 padlocks on
display. If all 4 or 5 are open (take a close look, gap is only
1 pixel wide), then the phone is unlocked.

Works on every (Sony-)Ericsson phone since ages, btw.

Was it unlocked or not?
