Samsung R225m versus X105

I'm planning to switch my wife's ATTWS account to T-Mobile and put her
phone and mine on T-Mo's Family Time Basic.  My wife is profoundly
anti-gadget and must have a phone that's easy to use.  Of the
free/cheap phones that T-Mo offers, I've disqualified the Nokia 3595
because she'd never tolerate its screwball keypad and the Motorola V66
because I've seen complaints about audio/RF quality.

That leaves two Samsung models, the R225m and the X105.  Is there any
reason to choose one of these over the other?  RF performance and
audio quality are the main considerations.  In fact almost all other
features like Bluetooth, WAP browsers, etc. are irrelevant (ok, an IR
port would make it easier for me to transfer numbers to her new phone
but that's about it).  Thanks for any suggestions with these models.

If she just needs a phone to make the occasional call and nothing more, the
R225 will do just fine, although that model is a few years old now.  I would
bet she'd like the X105.  If for no other reason than it's much newer
looking, has a very crisp color display and polyphonic ringtones.  It's as
simple to use as the R225.  Even though you say she's anti-gadget, I've seen
it happen a million times where someone will go the 'no frills' route, then
see something someone else can do and then want the fancier phone.  For
instance, she may decide she wants to download her favorite song as a
polyphonic ringtone.  Or she may see T-Zones in action and decide she'd like
to play with that for awhile.  She'll need an X105 for both of those.  I
haven't noticed any differences between the two in RF performance or audio
quality.

I wouldn't totally discount the 3595.  The keypad is the big complaint, but
Nokia still makes the best quality, most user-friendly phone.  One solution
would be to buy one of the faceplates that gives the phone a more
traditional, and easier to use, keypad.  They're hard to find in stock in
most stores, but the stores have an accessory website on their computers you
can order a faceplate from.  It will be shipped directly to your home or
office.

Charles:

I have had the R225 for over a year now and its bullet proof. It always
works and my wife loves it because is something she can operate.
