I got myself a Bluetooth dongle yesterday, and have been struggling to set
it up since. I can get my phone (V525) and the computer paired using the
software that came with the dongle, but when it comes to file transfers etc,
the software either crashes explorer or tells me there's an error
establishing connection.
After reading through various posts in here, I downloaded Mobile Phone Tools
from the motclub website. However, I can't figure this out either! Can
somebody help? This is what I do while it's going through the set-up
process:
Select the Other (Bluetooth) connection, other device, (check com ports),
select driver from list... I browse through all the phones and my phone
isn't there. Help?

I get the same problem with a belkin bluetooth dongle I bought. explorer.exe
crashes. I have read two other posts now who have the same problem. Do you
use windows 2000? I am going to test on win98 and winxp this weekend. I had
trouble with that MOT club aswell, went through all the com ports that the
bluetooth was using but no luck there. Is not easy to use really.
If I find a solution I will post here

Mobile Phone Tools works OK for me but it took me a while to get it set up
right using XP
Make sure the bluetooth device drivers are up and running - you'll see the
Bluetooth icon in your system tray bottom right
Make sure to unpair from the software that came with the dongle. Close the
software and reboot your phone. Go to settings/connection/blutooth/device
history and delete any entries you find. Not sure if this is necessary but
it seemed to help me.
Make sure you have at least version 2.16 of MPT. (The update is on
motclub.com). Uninstall it and reinstall it.
If you do all that MPT shouldn't go through all that 'looking for modem',
'select comport' crap. It should show a splash screen and then ask you what
phone you have. Choose V500 (afaIk V525 is Voda's V500).
Then you activate 'find me' on the phone, press next and let MPT spot your
phone. Click on the name of your phone when you see it and MPT gives you a
four digit code to puch in when the handset asks for it.
After that the paring up process should be fine. Once you get the phone and
the computer paired you should find MPT nice and stable.

Hi,
I have Bluetooth drivers etc installed, but when I run the MPT software it
tells me to ensure my phone is paired with the machine, uet I can't do that
without using the original software I got with the phone?? Is there a way to
do it with the MPT software?

On my machine, pairing the phone with MPT is a separate process from pairing
it with the original software. The phone will not pair with MPT if it is
already paired with the original software. That's why you have to reboot the
phone.
Is MPT going through the search for bluetooth devices when it starts up?

No, its not. When I start MPT I get the welcome screen, welcome to phone
setup wizard, please make sure your phone is not locked and select how you
will be connecting to your pc (I choose BT), and then it says "Please make
sure you have bonded (paired) your PC with your phone and DUN services have
been enabled. For questions or issues on bonding, please refer to your
Bluetooth software."
So the only way I can get them paired is to use the software I go with my
dongle?

As of Thursday the 15th of Jan, I was unable to get the MPT ver 2.16 from
MotClub. If you do not have the 2.16 upgrade you will not be anble to use
with the new v500 etc, that is why it is saying phone not found, becuase its
not there. If you have ver 1.23c that is availalable currently on Motclub
that will not work. It appears that BVRP (maker of the MPT software) has
wised up and removed the upgrade off their site, which is where Motclub was
getting the file for you to download. So, like all the time, day late and a
dollar short.
Anybody know where the upgrade can be had, Id love to know.

I don't think it's about wising up. Version 2 is intended to be a free
upgrade for registered users of version 1. I believe version 2.xx was
a bit problematic, and that BVRP is doing some "tweaking" and coming
out with a new upgrade.
