Does the v300 contain a light sensitive eye that automagically turns the
keypad backlight on\off depending if you are using it in direct sunlight?

I think the light sensor is under the lower left rubber cushion, under the *
key.  Put a finger over it, the keypad light comes on when you depress a
key.  Move the finger away and the keypad light turns off when you press a
key (under well lighted conditions of course) Anyone confirm this or am I
imagining something here?

Yes you have good eyes :D. I didn't see this until I read your post. Thanks.
I have known that phone is great but that is more than I could imagine :D.
Very cool.
