I just bought a V60.  There's an area for the owner to enter his name and
number.  I'm able to put in my name, but there's already a number there,
which cannot be removed.  I asked ATT about this and the guy at the counter
said it is a special number.  I called it, and got the answering machine of
someone named Eddie.  What gives?

Umm that number is the the phone number that use to be on that cell.  Did
you get a manual with the phone when you bought it?  If so go to page 136
it's called   "Programming instructions."

You'll need the cells mobile I.D. 10 digit number,
and the Carrier System's 1-5 digit number. (At&T is 4451)

these get keyed in with a code that is listed on that page.  It should bring
up the number you have for the phone now.

the cell id # is what companys use to tie the phone number to the right
phone in their group.

If you don't have the manual.  See if you can download it from Motorola.

If you can.  Get back to me.  And I'll scan the page in the book I have and
send it to you.

Then go back & tell the guy at the counter you talked to.  That he should
brush up on his cellular's knowledge better if he's going to sell the
things.  If he doesn't know how to fix it he should at least find out how to
correct it for you.

Hope this helped some

Yes, I did enter my name right before the phone number that shows on start
up.  It replaced the "Alltel" that previously showed.  I can't remember
exactly how, but it's easy to do - down in the menu section somewhere.

I didn't have any trouble changing the name.  The number, however, seems to
be pre-programmed.   Motorola and ATT  say it is the routing number and must
remain as-is.  It just seems strange that a screen that is supposed to be my
profile shows my name and a number, that if you call it, is somebody named
Eddy who never heard of me or of a Motorola V60....

The phone number can be changed in an unlocked phone, but AT&T locks
their phones.

What did ATT say at the store; has anyone from ATT actually seen what you're
talking about?  Certainly if they actually see the incorrect number in your
phone - call it - and find that it isn't you, they'll do something to fix
it.  Very strange!!!!

No, they said it's an internal routing number and even though I can dial it
(it's even in my area code) and actually talked to this guy named Eddie,
when I call out, my calls go thru this number.  It is very strange.
