Does anyone have an idea as to why my daughters v300 won't switch on? She's
adamant that she hasn't dropped it or damaged it in anyway!

Pressing the power key causes the keypad to light up and the display to
illuminate (but a very dim grey) but after a few seconds the whole thing
goes dark again.

is there a way to reset the phone, in case it's a software issue or does it
sound like the phone is screwed?

Thanks.

When you place the phone on the charger, do you get the normal indicators
that the phone is charging?

Nope, nothing comes up to indicate the phone is charging.
