Just got a new v60i and I have gone through 5 or 6 charging cycles and it
will only last about 8 hours of stand by time and takes about 8 hours or
longer to charge. Is this typical or maybe a bad battery?

I'd say bad battery, for sure.

If you're using a rapid charger it should be faster than that. The unit
does not ship with a rapid charger but only a standard charger.  As for
standby life, you should get a couple of days if you don't talk too much
and you're ina strong signal area. If you're ina weak signal area or
picking up analog then battery life will suffer dramatically.  I noticed
that when I travel to other cities my battery dies much more quickly
than when I'm home and I actually talk less when I'm away.

I am in both ( weak reception and analog ) .

Sorry to say you're screwed... however, there are thicker batteries that
last longer. Be sure to buy the appropriate battery door to match.
