Is there any (easy) way to select  a 24-hour time format?

How about a way to extend the back light to saaaayyyy 30 seconds?

And finally, is there a way to change the main (start-up) menu from icons to
a list?

--Go to Settings-Initial Setup-Time and Date-Change while the time is
highlighted-The over to where the AM/PM is and push up until 24hrs is shown

--If you mean the main screen which is always shown, no--If you mean the
Main Menu (by pushing the center softkey, yes.

i've checked on my Telus T731c (Canada) and...

can't find one

max 20 seconds.
main menu --> settings --> initial setup --> backlight

that's a yes.
main menu --> settings --> personalize --> main menu --> view
