V500/V525/V600 Voice Shortcuts - anyone got these to work?

My new V500 allows me to record voice names for menu and web
shortcuts, but I can't get the phone to recognise them - it just
asks me to repeat the name then says "Voice name not found".  Am
I missing a setting somewhere to enable this?

I don't think it's just a recognition problem.  Voice dialling
works reliably from the phonebook.  If I try to record the same
shortcut name again (without deleting the first), it warns me a
similar name is already stored and won't save it.  Maybe the
phone is just searching the phonebook by default?

After I had recorded 5 web shortcut voice tags (while trying to
get even one to work), the phone says shortcut memory is full, so
this seems to be the capacity.

Yeah this happened to me at first but after trying for about 5 times it
started to work, and now I have no problems setting it up, if your problem
persists then take your phone to a motorola repair workshop and they should
be able to fix it through the warranty.

How do you setup this feature?

For a V500, go to Shortcuts (in Office Tools menu), select an
item, press the menu key, select Edit.  If there are less than
five voice tags recorded, there will be a field for Voice -
select this, press Change, then Record and press the voice key to
start recording.  That bit works OK.

To use, press the voice key and speak the tag name.  That's the
bit that doesn't work (for me).

Thanks, I'll try again. You didn't do a Clear or Reset did you?
I tried switching the phone off and on after recording, as I'd
had to do to fix another problem (I think the keypad froze), but
it had no effect.  I might try deleting all my voice dial tags if
I have no luck.

On my T720 (Should be similar) after you setup the shortcut voice tag,
you have to press "Menu>>Voice button, then say the word to access the
shortcut. I was confused too at first, as I thought that I'd just have
to press the voice button and say the command to access the shortcut.
You have to press the "Menu" button first (Just like with the other
shortcuts) then the voice button.

Ah!  That's the trick. Many thanks.

I'm pretty sure that doesn't appear anywhere in the User Guide.
I did ask the question on the support site, so maybe an answer
will appear their i.d.c.

You're welcome. I've found that the Motorola manuals are incomplete and
poorly made. Mine literally fell apart within a few days. This group is
the place to look for any Moto specific information. I'd still be
experimenting and searching for answers if it weren't for the group.
Good luck with your Moto.

Thanks John, that did just what I wanted.  Now I need a codec (whatever that
is) to enable Vista's Movie Maker to read a 3GP file that came from my
Motorola V551 cell phone.

Try importing the clips into Movie Maker...
it can do the tasks you described.
