MPT Phonebook Has Different Lists?

I am running the latest version of MPT.  I use it for both my Motorola
V557 and KRZR K1.  When I open the Phonebook in MPT, both phones go to
exactly the same file.  I.E. ....../BVRP Software/Motorola Phone
Tools/Contacts.mdb.  Yet the phonebooks are not the same.  The one for
the V557 is an older version before I made the latest updates in the
KRZR K1.  I'm referring to the Phonebook on the computer, not the one
in the phones although they do match the computer book.  How can this
be that the same .mdb file has more than one version of the phonebook?
I want them to be the same.  How can I do that?

I recall that the old one went to Program Files, and the new one goes to
"Local Settings/Application Data".  It's hard to tell which one your ...
is supposed to reference.  Did you verify the latest modification time on
the file?  A Windows search for another copy?

I had different profiles set for multiple Motorola phones.  I had one
pointing to my active mail program, and one to the "personal file", or
whatever the MDB database was called.  Do your profiles differ?

A Windows Search (change the option to search for hidden files)
shows Contacts.mdb in multiple locations.

c:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\BVRP
Software\Motorola Phone Tools

And one stored in a .cab file for each different profile in
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BVRP Software\Motorola
Phone Tools\Profiles

I already did a search on all my hard drives for multiple .mdb files,
and there is only one.  To test it, I made a change with the V557
loaded into MPT, then verified that my one and only .mdb file was
changed.  It was.  I also did the same thing with my KRZR.  Although
the file contacts.mdb date/time changes for each phone, the phone
books for each phone are still different.  Apparently, one .mdb file
is able to hold multiple phone books.

Are you using different profiles?

The "other" mdb files are saved inside CAB files.  They don't reside on
disk.  Windows search has options for searching hidden folders, which this
is, and for searching inside zips/cabs, which this is, so it would be easy
to miss.  MPT apparently compresses the mdb for one profile, and expands
the mdb for the new profile.

Recently, I wanted to copy someone else's contacts from a Motorola to a
Nokia.  I used "outlook express .wab" as the local database in both MPT and
the Nokia PC Suite.  That allowed me to specify a Windows file name that
was readily visible, and didn't move between iterations of the two
different Phone tools.

Yes, I am using different profiles for the two phones because I want
the correct skin, and don't want to have to reinstall the phone every
time I change by using the same profile.

That is the problem, however.  I contacted BRVP tech support and they
informed me that what I want to do is not possible.  Each profile does
have its own contacts list, and there is no way to synch multiple
phone contact lists.  The only way to have a common phone book is to
use the one in Outlook, Outlook Express or Lotus Notes.  I was trying
to avoid that as I didn't want all the contacts in my Outlook address
book synched with the phone.  I guess I will have to do some trimming
on my Outlook book in order to use it with MPT.

I specified an Outlook Express.wab file just for this project.  It didn't
affect my normal email at all.  Mine was a one time move of contacts, but
you could have yet another profile that both phones would use, pointing to
a .wab file.  I would sync to a wab, clear out the excess entries, and then
sync the other phone.  Or do copies instead of a sync, still using the .wab
file for the coordinating point.
