RAZR 2 Album Names ???

Slowly getting used to the new RAZR 2. I transferred a bunch of albums to
the mini sd card and now they all show up as "unknown artist" on the phone.
Not very convenient. They play fine, I just can't tell which is which and I
see no way of renaming them in any menu. When connected with the data cable,
the album names are there in windows explorer, just not when I open the
phone. Any ideas?

I guess you have the artist names, song tiles etc. in the filename. The
phone expects to find this information in id3-tags inside each file.
There is software that can add id3-tags to mp3 files, e.g.

Andreas,
Thanks again for the link to mp3tag. Might I impose on you to
give me a bare bones tutorial? I've been trying to use it for hours and I
simply don't understand how to convert the titles and track names into
anything the phone recognizes. TIA

I had the same problem on my V3xx and in the end I amended the files on my
PC then loaded them back to the phone.

On the PC, select the mp3 file, right click and select "properties".

Then click on the "Summary" tab and click the "Advanced" button if it is
showing (if it's not, then you are already in advanced mode and there will
just be a 'simple' button showing).

Then you can select and change things like the Artist, Album Name, Genre,
Title etc by clicking the mouse on the title to highlight it, and changing
it to what you want.

Click OK and the id3-tags should now be correct.

When you put the tracks back onto your mobile, it should give you all the
info.

Not sure why this info is filled in already on some CD's/music files but not
others. It is a right pain having to go through the tracks one by one to set
this information. But that's the only way I have found to do it without any
fancy software.

I also use it when a track title is really long, and I shorten it so it all
shows in the play list.

The process is as follows.

1. Start mp3tag

2. Click FILE -> Chgange Directory (or press CTRL+D)

3. Choose the directory where your MP3-files are located on the harddisk
and press OK. You should now see a listing of the MP3-files in the
directory.

4. Mark one or several files that share the same style of encoding meta
information in the filename, e.g. chose all files with filenames that
look like this: "artist - album - title".

5. Do a right click on one of the marked titles and select "convert ->
filename-tag".

6. Modify the presented format string so that it fits the file name
layout of your files, e.g. "%artist% - %album% - %title%".

7. Click "Preview" and check if all album-names, artits and song titles
have been recognised correctly.

8. Click "OK" to save the newly created id3-tags to the files

9. Upload the files to the phone.

On my computer, mp3tag is in German, so it may be that I got some of the
item names wrong.
