Does the v195 use "standard" mini-usb?

I have read that the Razr does not use the normal pinouts for usb, and
thus you have to be very careful not to use the Razr charger on other
devices.

What about the v195?

I ask because I have a PalmT3 car charger that offers power via a regular
(computer size) usb female port.  I am tempted to plug my motorola v195
into it to see if it will work as a car charger for my v195.  Obviously I
would not want to let out the magic smoke.

I can charge my V195 using any garden variety USB cable when it's
plugged into my PC and I have the Motorola USB drivers installed.

But, I'd ->really like to know if the V195 will charge from a source
like yours with just voltage but no smarts behind it.

The RAZR pinout isn't different, but there are resistors or jumpers
between some of the pins that tell the phone to accept a charge.

Here's somebody's explanation:

I tried and it did not take a charge from the simple/dumb usb power
source. The display light came on but there were no other indications.
After that I plugged it into the usb of my computer and it did start to
charge as normal.  So it does seem that it requires a usb "smart" charger.

I have used razr chargers and cables for other (non-Motorola) mini USB
devices like cameras and MP3 players and they work fine. I have also used
non-Motorola USB chargers and generic USB cables to charge a Razr with no
problem.  I haven't heard anything about pinout differences for Moto
chargers and, indeed, if there is it doesn't seem to make any difference.

The pin-out is the same, however, the original Razr will not charge
(and/or will charge very very slowly, I don't entirely recall) unless it
either senses a computer with the appropriate drivers installed OR can
tell that the power source is a charger only (by way of the data pins
being shorted)

This was done because the Razr can draw more current then is permitted
without permission.

Many after market USB power sources provide the same shorted data pins
that allow the razr to charge -- In fact, I've only got one left at my
house that does not.

To add to the confusion, the Razr V9 uses a port that is similar to the
USB port used on the V3, but it's a slightly different form-factor.
Thanks Motorola, I really wanted one extra charger in my bag.

That is µUSB, call it the next generation of USB plugs if you like.
Nokia is using them as well now, e.g. on the 6500.

I'll probably have to research on my own, but what advantages does it
offer?  It's not physically smaller then the existing USB connections,
so as far as I can tell, it's just one more USB cable to keep in the
drawer.

(Okay, it is about 1mm smaller, and a bit wider...)

I guess(!) that's the reason. This 1mm on the plug can be quite a lot if
the whole phone is only 6mm.

The Razr V9 is what, 12mm?

Don't have one here, but if it's 12mm, then it's 12mm for the flip and
the base. I guess 6mm is not too far off for the base. Maybe 9.

The microUSB jack is less then half the size of the base, an extra 4mm
wouldn't be a problem if the rubber cover attachment was moved to the
side.
