Hello,
I been truying for days & days to fight this battle.
I just got the latest Motorola Phonetools & installs ok & when it asks
me to plug modem in I do. I am using a USB cable & it detects phone &
all then I get this message while modem installing found new hardware
motorola USB composite Device then I get cannot install hardware fatal
error. I tried all my USB ports & on my other PC same thing. I
uninstalled & reinstall the program several times & about to through
this phone in the ocean here.
i googles on this found several others having this issue but no
answer.
I want to add music & all & change my wallpaper etc but i can get PC
to install it. I went to motorola web site & downloaded seperate
drivers but same error.

carriers lol.

First question: Did you ever plug the phone into your PC PRIOR to running
the software? If so, go into Device Manager and then remove the Motorola USB
Modem wherever it appears (look at Modems, Ports, USB). Then Reboot, Then
run MPT and only plug in the phone when prompted. Use the original Motorola
USB cable if possible. Most others will work but not all (I know this from
experience).
I don't know if Sprint crippled the phone the way Verizon did but look at
www.howardforums.com and www.motox.info for more details.

It's not Sprint that's the problem. MPT is an extremely flaky program.
I've been the hell you've been through, and eventually it started
working, but I have no idea why. It would detect a bunch of new
hardware, install g-d knows what, then fail. One day it started working,
for unknown reasons.
