Is it possible to move a picture from my RAZR V3 to my computer?
There's no obvious way using Motorola Phone Tools.

Open the multimedia studio, file transfer studio and move the pictures.

The MPT menu lists:
Synchronization
Phonebook
Calender
Text Message
Internet Connection

The PDF documentation says that "Multimedia Studio" should be between
"Text Message" and "Internet Connection" but the menu on my screen is
shown above!

Is this something that Verizon Wireless could/would have disabled?

Sorry, you said the phone was a V3.  Since your on Verizon Wireless the
phone is a V3c or a V3m, both very different animals.

Here's how to make the Multimedia studio show up...

Start MPT and connect the phone.  You won't see the multimedia studio
as you said so next, right click on the little phone image in your
systray (where the clock is) and select Setup, General Setup and click
on the communication tab.  Click on the "Change modem" button to start
the Device Configuration wizard, click next.  You should see a
"Motorola USB Modem" selected, if not, select it and click Next.  Check
the "Do not automatically select the driver.  Select from a list." and
click Next.  Select Motorola CDMA in the left window and scroll down to
V3cm if your phone is a V3c or V3mm if it's a V3m.  Click next, finish
and OK, you should now see the multimedia studio.

If you're game to do a seem edit you can make your phone report itself
as a V3cm or V3mm all the time.  Look here:

http://hacktherazr.com/guide.seem.edits.html

The first one is the one you want but if it were me, I'd do 1 - 4 and
the 3 steps to enable the time and date menu, then scroll down for any
others that you want.  Right above the seem edits is a list of software
you'll need and where to find it.

Good luck!

Yep, all bets are off for Verizon crippled phones. Fortunately you can
do the SEEM edits and restore the functionality you paid for.

My choices here are:
Send
Reception
Organizer
Settings
View
Help
Exit

I clicked on "Settings" but the resulting menu does not match your
description!

I'm not certain what a "seem edit" is.  The limited reading I've done on
the net seems to hint that it's a good way to void the warranty and turn
the phone into a brick if you don't know what you're doings.  I clearly
don't know what I'm doing!

I think I will learn to live without the ability to transfer pictures
from the phone to my computer.  I bought it because I needed a new phone
or to buy replacement batteries for my ST7868W. Investing in new
batteries for a ?? year old phone seemed like a waste of money.

I think I have a later or earlier version of MPT but "settings" is
probably what you want.

When you click on Settings, what choices do you have?  Anything that
looks like "General Setup" or similar?

This may help:

http://mark.cdmaforums.com/V710_MPT_Cable.htm

Scroll down to the section labelled "To Get the Multimedia Studio Icon"
and see if either method 1 or 3 will work for you but first make sure
MPT is updated to the latest version available.

It does help!  Particularly the part that says:
"NOTE: Seem edits are required for the Verizon V710, E815, V3M, Krzr K1M
and Certain FIRMWARE versions of the V3C to allow MPT to transfer
ringers/pictures/videos via USB Data cable or Bluetooth. As well to
allow V710 users to be able to use MPT via Bluetooth for Calendar and
Contacts.   While Seem Edits can re-enable these features Verizon has
disabled, BRVP does NOT SUPPORT this, and will not support "hacked" or
Seem Edited phones.  So, if you do a seem edit, you void your phone's
warranty, Verizon's support, and BVRP will NOT help you if you have
problems with MPT."

I don't want to transfer pictures THAT badly.

Once you read up on it a bit and get the right free software, SEEM edits
are really very simple - and reversible!
A good place to start is http://xlr8.us/hofo/ and get pkTools and
pkCommander at www.motox.info or www.howardforums.com among others.

I've used MPT to transfer pictures with both my E815 and V3m before
doing a seem edit, neither phone required it.

BTW, if you save your seem before editing it, you're looking at about 3
minutes to return your phone to the stock, non-edited version.

Marc Venture is VERY over cautious, IMHO, but he really doesn't want to
be sued, therefore all the disclaimers.

BTW, if you have a V3M you have a slot for a transflash card, you can
save pictures to the card and then to your computer by removing the
card and putting it into the proper USB device on your PC.

Opinions vary but mine is that if I couldn't transfer pictures from my
phone to my PC I wouldn't have a camera phone.

Oh no, they'd never do a thing like that.
BruceR - 25 Dec 2007 01:34 GMT
You can do it with MPT or Bluetooth directly.

Thanks Bruce, but could you provide a little detail as to HOW?
I don't have any way to use Bluetooth.  I do have MPT and a USB cable.

I've had the phone for less than a week and there's still a lot that I
don't know.  If it's documented somewhere, a pointer to the docs would
be a big help.
BruceR - 25 Dec 2007 02:49 GMT
Open MPT.
Click on Multimedia Studio
Click File Transfer Studio
Move pictures.

I like using Bluetooth better. You can get a BT dongle for your PC for
under $20 delivered.

Using My Bluetooth Places you can move things around quickly and without
the more cumbersome MPT interface.

What some of these people replying don't seem to understand is that
Verizon has crippled your phone.  And Avanquest / BVRP is in on it.
You will not be able to use Multimedia Studio with your Motorola Phone
Tools unless you either seem edit or reflash your phone.  You need the
drivers from the "Motorola Software Update" (Google for it) to do
either -- and if you use MPT after installing the Motorola Software
Update, MPT will actually kill the MSU drivers that you need to put
your phone in the state you need to seem edit or flash your phone.  If
you go to the Avanquest forums, you will see how unfriendly they are
to any idea of uncrippling your phone.

I have a feeling that most of the people answering are using another
provider other than Verizon and do not realize that your use of MPT
will never be as easy for your phone as it is for theirs.

Some more info:

The drivers that you need to seem edit / flash are different than the
ones MPT installs as these put your phone in another mode.  The latest
drivers are at:
http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/USB_Drivers/Handset_USB_Driver/Handset_U
SB_Driver_32_v3.3.0.msi/
.

You need to install these drivers first -->
then run MSU and leave open (very important)
(get at
https://rsddownload.motorola.com/download/Motorola_Software_Update.exe)

then run some P2K editing software (P2K Commander, P2K Seem Editor,
P2K Advanced Editor, P2K Tools VS, etc.) to enable ringtone transfer
via MPT, bluetooth profiles, SMS usage from your computer (yes, MPT &
Verizon have disabled even this on some phones), etc., etc.  You can
find P2K Tools VS at http://storage.e398mod.com/soft/P2K-Tools-3.zip;
Google for the others.  Which one you use is a personal preference.

Remember, the latest MPT will toast the drivers above, so do all your
seem editing / flashing before using MPT.

You can find lots of tutorials on the web.  I have found that most are
very helpful, but that it takes reading through several of them to get
through all the steps you will need.  Make sure that when someone is
showing you how to do something that they 1) have the K1m and 2) are
using Verizon.  People with Sprint, Alltel, US Cellular, Telus, etc.
phones will not encounter all the problems that you will face with
your Verizon phone.

That's why I suggested he use Bluetooth.

Heh.  Verizon has disabled the bluetooth profile that lets him do
transfers to his phone.

Verizon does have a chart for you to see which profiles they have
disabled on which phones:

Verizon cripples that too. You can only use BT for a headset.
