Help Needed Uploading Pics from Inactive V551

Hi,

I have an INactive Motorola v551 cell phone from which I'm trying to
upload old pics to pass them on to the previous owner.

(I'm new to cell phones and Bluetooth etc so please be gentle.) ;)

This seems to be the one thing I need to know after reading the
manual, calling Motorola etc etc:

1. How do I rename the pics on the phone? (I think the names may be
the problem.)

Also, I've installed the MPT but I don't have a "Mobile Explorer" or
"File Transfer Studio" option. I understand that I can transfer the
pics to another Bluetooth-enabled phone within range (which I tried
but it failed) but can't I just transfer the pics using Bluetooth to
my PC? I've tried the "find me" thing with my phone and it has been
found but it's still not working for me. Do I need one of those dongle
things?

??

Thanks.

Is this a Verizon Wireless phone?  If so, welcome to the world of
crippled phones.  Verizon disables the file transfer facility.  If they
had not, you would be able to transfer files to your computer using
either a USB cable or Bluetooth (to a suitably equipped computer, I
believe that you can buy a Bluetooth "dongle" that plugs into a USB
port.  I think a USB cable is cheaper but you may want the Bluetooth
"dongle" for other reasons.

Names should not be a problem, but I think there's a rename option if
you press the soft menu key.

Use Live Update to the latest version.

You can with MPT.

You do need Bluetooth on the PC.

>Is this a Verizon Wireless phone?

AFAIK, the V551 is a GSM only phone, no CDMA2000 version.

Thanks, I'll try those suggestions.

So that means I need a dongle? I did download the Motorola Bluetooth
drivers when prompted. I'm using an IBM Thinkpad t23 with Win2000 Pro.
I don't know if that helps or not.

I don't know the difference between those. As for it being a Verizon,
are you asking if it was initially purchased through Verizon? If so, I
don't know but I can check.

You need a cable or Bluetooth or IR to transfer to PC.  If you don't
have a cable, try IR.  If that doesn't work, then you need Bluetooth on
the PC.  Does the T23 have Bluetooth?

Probably Cingular or T-Mobile.

Your PC did not come with Bluetooth so you'll need a dongle. In selecting
one I STRONGLY advise you get one that comes with the Widcomm/Broadcom
"stack" or drivers. The one made by D-Link will do nicely. I recommend this
because the interface, called My Bluetooth Places is easy to use and very
reliable. You'll be transferring your pictures in minutes. Amazon has it for
$20 after rebate.

I do have a USB cable and tried uploading using it.

I'm so confused!

Update MPT to the latest version.  Then use Multimedia Studio -> File
Transfer Studio copy the pictures to the computer.
