Motorola RAZR2 V9 - screen sometimes goes black after opening phone

I picked up a Motorola RAZR2 V9 a few months ago, and have been very
satisfied with it so far, but there has been one strange thing that
has started happening recently.

I will flip open the phone (prior to opening everything appeared
normal, the time was appearing on the outside screen), and the screen
will go black. I will press a few buttons, and then the picture will
appear, then it says 'searching' and it reconnects to the network, and
then everything is fine.

This seems to be happening more often now.

any ideas?

Thanks!

Seems like the software crashes when you open the phone. The crash is
then detected by a watchdog circuit which restarts the phone. That
should not happen.

I would first try a master reset an if that does not help look for a
software update (or look for a software upgrade straight away). The
master reset procedure is in the manual, a software update may be
available at www.hellomoto.com in the support section under "update my
software".

Here's a more direct link to the Motorola software update site:

did an update, and did a full reset, but it still happens
periodically. It doesn't happen all the time, but, the best I can
tell, is that it pretty much only happens when I flip open the phone
after the front screen is black and only showing the time. but the
phone isn't fully restarted after this happens - it doesn't ask for
the SIM pin number, it just says searching and then reconnects to the
network.

any other thoughts?
