There are 2 possibilities:

1) You can download free ringtones to your pc in different file
formats(midi, mmf etc) and then upload them to your phone with your
data cable.

2) If you have got a wap enabled mobile phone, you can use a free wap
service to get your free ringtones downloaded direct to your phone!
both possibilities are available at http://www.all-ringtones.biz/

I e-mailed Nextel, and was told that the only ringtones you can use are from
Nextel themselves.
