My current cell phone carrier contract is going to be up in a month.  I am
shopping for a new carrier.   My current carrier is Cellone......I would
like Nextel  but Verizon looks tempting.....

Please can anyone tell me the down falls of NEXTEL or VERIZON  (if any)

Thank You

Nextel
Pro - Nextel  direct connect (walkie talkie)
Con - system coverage, no roaming

If being able to use your phone most anywhere is important - go Verizon
Hands down the better system

Best thing to do is to find users of both services where you live.
As no carrier is perfect, you need to ask those who use phones in
the places that you go to to see if they have issues.

I live in Chicago, so this might be a factor. I'm with Nextel right no
and take it from me, it's not worth it. The service is bad and th
walkie talkie feature isn't all its repped up to be. Not only that, i
you're looking to buy a new phone, the ones nextel offers are crap
They're so expensive and for nothing. They don't do any thing specia
that other phones can't do. With Nextel's prices you'd expect t
contact aliens or something but there's way better phones and plan
that are cheaper out there

I need Direct Connect for work, but for travel, I choose Verizon which seems
to have the best country wide coverage.
I thought that Cingular coverage would get better with the buyout of AT$T,
but all the people that I talk to who have the original cingular phones
still sound terrible.
Don't get Nextel if your concerned with a large coverage area. That is not
one of it's strong points.

I hear ya with Cingular, I think the coverage acutally got worse afte
the purchase of at&t, In my area Nextel and Verizion have the bes
coverage.  they are pretty much exactly the same coverage area, som
spots nextel is better and others Verizon but the are both good,
choose nextel because of customer service and rate plan

A great plan, in areas with bad coverage, isn't worth a damn.

COVERAGE should be your first priority.
