Anyone heard of this? I am being shipped a new phone overnight, but
I dont see any comments or views or questions/postings on the phone
besides my own?
Zman - 06 Jan 2006 19:56 GMT
I have had rolling resets on a number of different phones: i1000+, i55,
i85, i90, i730 and i860, and have seen it on other handsets. Noting new,
defective phone.

Dumb question, but is there any way to tell when I get the new one,
what to look for or certain things to do, to find out if its going to
happen again?

Unfortunately, no.

I've had the i760 since last August and have not had that happen. That is,
if I understand what you mean by 'power cycling'....power off, then on?
Where do you live? Are you perhaps traveling to areas where you temporarily
lose signal?

Why would the phone power off, due to loosing signal?
If Nextel phones power off because of that, this contract is being
terminated immediatly
sb1234 - 23 Apr 2006 03:35 GMT
You only had 14 Days for Termination if not You would be charged $200 Early
Termination Fee so good Luck Im in my 20th day still having step Claims
filed and Hoping not to go over the 400 Minute rule they have set up. 400
Minute life of Phone for a step claim to take effect if not your on your
own. I was only about 10-15 minutes away on each phone beware it adds up
10 minutes weekly you can check by pressing #*Menu Right Arrow quickly and
go to 2nd Option and it will tell you.

The power on the phone has nothing to do with the signal. Losing signal
will NOT power down the phone.

I've had this happen on my i530 and on the wife's i710. In both cases
removing the battery and rubbing the contacts on the phone and the
battery with a pencil eraser corrected the problem. I've taken to
doing this on the first of the month as a preventative maintenance.

Thanks for the reply's from everyone, right now I am still waiting on
the replacement phone which they (Nextel) have fumbled around with
since last Thursday, as of last evening I am supposed to have one
being shipped to me and arrive today, LOLLOLOLOLOL ROFLMAO.
In regards to cleaning contacts on the phone and battery for a phone
that is 29 days old, well good suggestion, but I did this in the
Marines for 21 years, if I have to do it on a NExTEL phone monthly ,
termination of contract will take care of that. The one other person
confirmed my suspicion in regards to loosing signal turning the phone
off. I think they mass produce these things so fast in China there's
no quality Control.
THanks all

Michael,
The person who said that losing signal will shut off the phone is an idiot.
There are a number of phones, including the i760, have what is called Direct
Talk, which is an off-network walkie-talkie. It is designed for use when
there is no signal. As for cleaning the contacts on a monthly basis, that
was suggested as proventative maintenance. I have one user who has been
using an i1000 for 7 years, and we have never had to do anything other than
replace the battery a couple of times because they only last 2 - 3 years.

Did you use the new SIM that came with it, or use your old one from the
previous one, if there was one?
I got 2 i560's recently, took my wifes 530 sim and put it in hers and it
worked fine, put my 710 sim in the 560 and had the power cycling problem.
When I used the new sim it was fine then the phone failed and they sent me a
new one. Several reps have said swapping the sim was fine, but when I
called Motorola IDEN support thay said nom use the new sim.

I have had an I850 for about a month now. It is very similar to the i760
but also includes a camera.
So far, it has rebooted twice but only when I've used the tekniwap thing. I
use that mainly to check my stocks on Ameritrade. Anyway, both times I
immediately turned on the phone, went to the tekniwap alert and it froze up
the screen. Then it stays lit and reboots by itself. I'm hoping it's
nothing big as it seldom happens; your problem sounds more severe.

Hi Michael I purchased 2 I850 Phones about 2 weeks ago from Nextel and they
were both restarting by themselves one was restarting when flip opening it
or in other functions, the other one was just doing it randomly. I filed
2 Step Claims and received them new about 2 days ago. Well one of them
already started rebooting itself (and I am going to file another step
claim) and the other one I'm still testing it, that means I got 4 New
I850's seating in my desk 3 are defective and I am still checking the
other one. I have read that it is a common problem on the howard forums
beware of the 400 minute rule. I don't know a solution to it or have not
heard a real one yet, so my best bet is to file another step claim until I
get what I paid for a New Working Phone, because two years is a long term
commitment to pay for a useless phone. Hope this helps you.
