I was told that you shut Call Alert off so nobody can Alert you. Any ever
heard of this ? I know how to shut off the time out part

Another alternative is to go to the ringtones menu, and remove the
alert ringtone assignment from the alert function. Then people could
technically 'alert' you, but it would be silent.

Yes with Filters and Profiles. I have a profile set up so that only the
telephone works.
