Can Nextel find out what kind of phone you are using by you're SIM card?

Thanks,

no, but I think they can tell if you put your sim card in a blackberr
and try to use it

By use of the SIM, probably not.  However, I had heard a rumor some time
back that they were exploring some kind of IMEI identification to help
detect theft and fraud.

they can do an IMEI search of the phone and find out which account the sim
card is registered to.

my phone was recovered by nextel following a theft by that method; the thief
put his sim in my phone.

i think the ultimate answer to the question is that unless you have
stolen phone, there should be nothing to prompt Nextel to find out wha
type of phone you have

Not sure if I agree with that. If you are having phone problems and yo
call tech support. They would need to know the phone model, softwar
version, etc. If you buy a new phone and you have insurance, ther
should be some sort of record with nextel of when you bought the phone

what i was trying to say is that in my experience unless the phone wa
stolen, they do not care what phone you have and if you did call an
their records indicated you had a different phone than what you wer
using they would just update their system to show your new phone
