I have been waiting for this phone for years!!!!!!
It is finally anounced, will it work on Nextel?

Its a GSM+EDGE phone and quad band (don't know what they mean, but I'll
spend up to $1000 to have it work)

NOPE!

The new iPhone is GSM technology.

Sprint phones are CDMA technology.

Nextel phones are IDEN technology.

So even though Sprint owns Nextel they use 2 different technologies to
deliver the phone call.  Hence they use different towers.

If you want an iPhone you will need to move to Cingular and if there is
a way to have the phone UNLOCKED it would be able to be used on
T-Mobile's network.  However if you've seen the new release you will
know that the phone is to be released on Cingular's network in June 07.
However with Cingular's track record of releasing phones there is no
guarantee it will actually launch in June.

Guess I am moving to Cingular !!!

I've had Nextel for 7+ years, and have been waiting for an acceptable
phone all that time.
Nothing has ever been close to other carriers phones (besides the two
way)

Now Apple has released a phone that is years ahead of everyone else.
(And others may never catch up, nobody has yet come close to the ease
of use that the iPod has, even after years of trying to copy it)

Oh and it will ship in June (as long as it gets FCC approval)
Apple is making the phone not Cingular. They just couldn't start
manufacturing or apply for FCC approval or it would have been announce
before Steve Jobs keynote speech.
Although I'm sure there will be shortages, Its as cheap as the original
iPod was and includes a phone!!

I have no doubt that the phone will be released in June ONLY because
APPLE is involved.
Cingulars history with other smart phones the are produced by other
vendors as well
have almost never hit the mark as far as the original annouced release
dates.

Cingular does not actually make any phone even though some of them have
the
Cingular branding (ie - Cingular 8525) they are produced by another
vendor but
just put Cingular's branding on them.

Most of the time there have been compatibility issues with the network,
having said that
though I've watched the entire keynote address from Steve Jobs and he
mentioned that
they've been in a partnership with Cingular for the past 2 years so I'm
sure this is a good thing.
